Stercoraceous matter - consisting of or resembling dung or feces; from Latin stercus, stercor - 'dung'.
The case below appears in the Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion, Volume 2, Part II, page 87. The patient, 18 yo Private W A Liebe, Co K, 2nd New Jersey, was admitted to the field hospital at Burkittsville Maryland on Sept 14, 1862 following the Battle of Crampton's Gap. Overseeing his treatment was Assistant Surgeon H A Dubois, US Volunteers, who was in charge of the 600 wounded Union and Confederate soldiers being treated at the field hospitals in the tiny hamlet of Burkittsville, Maryland. Apparently he was shot through the bowels, but eventually reached a full recovery.
Main street Burkittsville MD
