NF Steampunk Civil War

Not very relevant to most of the members, but if, by chance, some of you can read Russian - don't miss the entertaining book series "Once upon a time in Wild West" by Andrey Ulanov ("Однажды на Диком Западе", Андрей Уланов).
It's a steampunk-fantasy mixture (those familiar with CRPG know this as "Arcanum-like setting") set mostly in the postwar US just after the war. But in the third book, which is called "All the Federal Cavalrymen" ("Вся федеральная конница") the author "returns" to the year of 1863 and sets a cryptohistorical theory about the Union wins and losses on the Eastern and Western Theaters.

Shift some major technology left on the timeline first.

1. The industrialized nations are faster on grasping the Bessemer Steel process

2. Co-opt the idea of Difference Engines

3. Read The Peshawar Lancers, for an excellent blend of Kipling, science and Steampunk.

4. Winan did more than steam cannons, to the point that he probably inspired Verne.

Someone could write a steampunk version of the war just using inventions and proposals made, they don't have to invent any more.

I do agree with many of the 19th-century inventions are so steampunk....
