Hi everyone,

It's that time again to share another recent find. And it's some engineer shoulder boards and a hat badge. Now the jaceron border is all but gone still the velvet and bullion are perfect!! One inch castle sits among a beautiful bullion laurel and palm leaf with a soft back construction.

Let's not forget these massive 5x2 TRIPLE border staff lieutenant boards. The velvet is untouched and the inner border has alternating bullion. Nice and thin, flexible too with a paper backing. All the attributes you need to see. Enjoy everyone.

Interestingly enough when the volunteer engineers were awarded the castle crest the regular army removed theirs in protest.
I did not know about that happening. Thank you for sharing. I have been after an engineer badge for a while, patience is everything.

As a retired engineer soldier I have many but none from that era.
This is my first officer's piece, I do have a small brass one too. I am trying to get my hands on a topographical engineer insignia too. I bet yours are really nice since you collect them too. Do you still have all of your insignia and uniform from your time in the engineers?

Remember that the topos were incorporated into the engineers in 1862-3 thus giving up that designation.

I'm after this one. It's published in north south trader magazine. I'm still trying to find what an appropriate offer might be. It's got the metal stiffener and loops so like you mention early or even pre war.

I know a few things about the engineers during the civil war. They tried to recruit a company of topo's in 1862 but could not find enough qualified candidates. The ten that were found enlisted and were transferred to the regular engineers when the effort was given up.
