If I were to pick one book about Stanton to read, which should I pick? Marvel's Lincoln's Autocrat or Stahr's Stanton: Lincoln's War Secretary?

I have only read Marvel's book, its very tough on Stanton. I personally don't like Stanton so I didn't mind it. However I think a more balanced view might be worth reading, I'm unsure if Stahr's book would do a more even handed job.

Marvel does have a Cspan lecture. You may want to give it a skim through and see if you like him:
