I tried to find one of these canteens as a novelty gift for a friend. Looking them over most of the cheaper knock-offs were
under sized in comparison to the originals. For the perfectionist that just isn't good enough.

SS = Stainless Steel, something that didn't exist in 1861-'65. That makes these totally FARB. Yeah, regular steel rusts and makes the water taste funny; poor baby - get over it. This reminds me of the old excuse from back in the day: Iffen they'da had it, they'da used it!

OK,,,,,completely understand now....since it's "SS = Stainless Steel" under the wool it's a major NO NO.
