South secession vote

Hey everyone, I am looking for any kind of resource that specifically touches on the southern secession vote. Popular vote vs secession delegates. I've seen one resource at the time by Karl Marx, who wrote that a few hundred thousand men voted to secede out of the total eligible voting population but that's one source from the late 1800s. Are there are any current studies? Looking to see if in fact it was or wasn't a majority decision.
