Given the discussion on this thread - http://civilwartalk.com/threads/europes-view-of-the-causes-of-southern-secession.128340/ - I went hunting for books on Amazon.

These two books had no reviews, can anyone comment on them please?

'English Public Opinion and the American Civil War' by Duncan Andrew Campbell

'A Prussian Observes the American Civil War: The Military Studies of Justus Scheibert' by Frederic Trautmann (Translator)

Europe and the American Civil War by Donaldson Jordan, is a good one for a very general overview of the subject. The North the South and the Great Powers, 1861-1865, by David P. Crook is also a good one. The United States and France: Civil War and Diplomacy is also a good one for the French perspective, and Great Britain and the American Civil War for the British opinions.

There's one I read about Russia but I can't recall the name at the moment...
