Oxford College
So many of the Students of this institution having departed to war, and one of the Professors' having accepted a Captains' commission in the service, it is thought that the exercises of the college will be suspended, indefinitely. The following note to his father from a son of Bishop pierce, will show the animus of the young men of the south, in the present crisis: - Macon Citizen
Dear Father: I was extremely anxious to have your opinion in regard to this matter - I wrote you on yesterday, expecting an answer today. I did not hear from you, and must act as judgement and a sense of duty prompts. I have gone to Pensacola. My studies will resume when I return. My duty to my country is paramount to every interest. God grant that we may meet in safety, when the victory is won.
