In the original draft of Star Wars it was indeed intended that Stormtroopers wield lightsabers (there's exists a drawing of it) ... however as we all know the idea was scrapped.

Look up "Stormtrooper effect". This is an actual thing.

There's an episode of a now-ended Sci-Fi (eh-hem, sorry "SyFy") series called Warehouse 13 about people who track down historical artifacts that generally cause people to suffer effects, gain powers, or more-or-less live through the life of the historical figure to whom it belonged (don't ask me how; it's science fiction). There's an episode in which a reenactor had gotten ahold of "Grant's Flask" and was actually trying to kill the rebel "soldiers", and two of the characters had to retrieve the flask before anyone got bayonetted or shot. After doing so - with an appropriate amount of sci-fi-y special effects and sparks and stunning a guy with a futuristic ray gun, of course - a reenactor walks by and says something to the effect of, "**** Trekkies; always showing up and pretending to be time travelers."

"Star Wars" characters.

I do remember the most important thing from the original movie.
