According to http://www.ohiocivilwar.com/ - the following regiments had a large number of Ohio men in them - up to and including being originally entirely of Ohioians:

1st Kentucky Volunteer Infantry
2nd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry
4th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry
2nd West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry

Stranger facts are out there - but this is still peculiar.

It was not unusual for some Confederate Tennessee regiments to have a sizable number of Kentuckians. I thought I remember reading somewhere that some men from Little Egypt did end up in Confederate service too.

Would they have signed up under Kentucky's name due to Ohio being above their quota? I probably should know that since I'm from Kentucky and live just across the river from the Buckeyes, but I don't.

(Or would it have had something to do with Kentucky's attempted neutrality?)

I believe the Ohioans serving in "Kentucky" and "West Virginia" regiments are either above quota or - as I recall reading about some Michiganeers who joined a Missouri unit - the governor couldn't keep up with the mustering companies, so they went elsewhere, reported themselves, and got accepted.

And yes - one company, though what unit escapes me, I distinctly recall reading that one company of Little Eygpt men were in a Tennessee unit.

Make that at least one company. I recall reading about close to two.

Little Egypt was and is, an extension of Kentucky with a river running through it. The same can be said of southern Indiana. On the other hand, Louisville and Lexington were and are almost northern. Lining the Ohio River is and was a mixed bag. It must have been a nightmare for those trying to sort 'em out.

Simple sort rule from the southern perspective. If they wear a blue coat, shoot 'em.

For some reason, the only thoughts that come to mind are friendly fire and killing grannies.

I don't know why. Its not meant as a criticism, its just the thought that popped into my head.

I'll offer a pray for Gov. Arnold. He has his work cut out if there are more of you in California.

I'm not sure how the fact that "killing people in bluecoats" makes me think of killing grannies makes his job any harder than the other reasons why no sane person would want to be governor right now.
