Uniforms So what makes this lamp "hideous"?

I don't see any rank , but he looks a bit like Teddy Roosevelt during the Spanish American War.
His sergeant strips are the same light blue as his shirt. Should I put some yellow paint on his chevrons and had cords? Maybe paint his crossed sabers gold? Perhaps then he would not look "hideous ".

If you toss out the lamp your wife be delighted.

If you toss out the lamp you will be de-lighted!
Very funny but then the illustrations I plan to hang on the wall would not have enough light.
Looks good to me. However, like your wife, my wife wouldn't like it.

I though women were suppose to "love a man in uniform".

I would recommend you build the proverbial man cave. But, of course, you then get assaulted with "you never built me that walk-in closet for the 85 pairs of shoes I have (none of which are hideous)" and so you once again realize that you can never win ... unless you threaten to Secede, but that doesn't always work out too well either...

Shameless! Utterly shameless!

It could use a touch-up on its paint job. That's the only thing I can think of that's "hideous" about it.
I did buy it on a second hand store and it was not in perfect shape
At some point will touch up the paint
I also need an appropriate lamp shade.
