As can be seen from the attached photo, things have dramatically improved since my first visit to the Devil's Den back in 1959. It made no sense to take a photo of the landscape to the front of the guns because the "jungle" to the monument's left extended across the road completely blocking any view toward the Emmitsburg Road.

Wow. I love seeing how the battlefield looked before they cleared the trees.

This is a great photo! Thanks for reminding everyone how good things are today, even if the forest is starting to creep down Big Round Top again. The "Valley of Death" really needs to be cleared out again.
