Slouch hat

A soft, usually felt, hat with a broad brim that tended to droop or slouch over the face.

The soft-brimmed felt hat beloved by Confederate troops. The wide brim provided shelter from the sun, and the hat could be turned into comfortable pillows. The design was based on British hats first imported in the 1830s.
