Ladies & Gents-
I was browsing the Ebay attic in the Grand Army of the Republic category when I came across this listing and I found it interesting.
On this site we have had discussions and opinions expressed on whether Confederate Battle Flags captured during the war should be returned to their respective states or not. Obviously the debate is on-going and probably always will be here. I found this badge of interest because it was from a GAR encampment in 1887. This topic must been a big issue at this event among the veterans themselves.
We can see from this rare badge (at least I have never seen one before) that the veteran that wore it did not want the rebel flags returned. Perhaps that so few of these badges have survived is a statement that this was the minority opinion.
