I'm researching an officer who served in same regiment as my ancestor.
2nd Lt. Jesse C. Woodard

The service records in Fold3 for J. C. Woodard are filed under J. C. Woodward; but his records contained both spellings.
He was 36 years old and enlisted in 17 Mississippi Regiment on May 21, 1861 in Corinth and was a 3rd-Sergeant in Company E early in his records.
By September 1861, he was elected as a Lieutenant. The two last records say his term of enlistment expired and he was called to Richmond by the Secty of War. On 12 Dec 1861, he was paid $106--- as his severance pay, I guess.
I searched for him under the category of Officer which would include staff officers not assigned to a regiment; he wasn't found.

Q: Where did Lt. Woodard / Woodward go after December 1861?
Q: If the War Department ordered him to Richmond, where would you find any record of his service? OR's?
