Shiloh Storm Damage 2019

Glad that you and the others were unhurt. I know of 1 death in Corinth from the storm.

David

As I look at these photos of the damaged lost of these trees on this Battlefield of history past and try to imagine the the loss of the actual battle damage of war! But the only difference between the two were during the actual battle soldiers were either killed or wounded...

@Seduzal I also had similar thoughts looking at all those trees torn and tattered.

These photos of Bankhead's Tennessee Battery among the downed trees caused me to wonder if this might have been an accurate picture of a battery that had been under fire at Shiloh

it could be ? But one may never know for that was along time ago... it would be hard to image the k-house of the actual battle the noise, smoke, the explosions of the canons and shells, the cry of the men death and wounded men, the blood...

The downed trees did open up new clearings that weren't before seen but it is sad to see that wonderful place so messed up . As soon as our road was cleared of the downed trees and power poles where we could get out we went straight to the park . It was bad but as close as the damage was I'm just grateful I got a house to come home to . My neighborhood took a big hit . I didn't mind being without power for a week when it could have been a lot worse.

As long as you and yours came through alright is all that counts. It was a bad storm by the looks of it.

How did Hiram and Julia (the bald eagles) make out?

The Shiloh Eagles are active this month! There have been several sightings of the eagles in the area around the nest tree as well as at the river. The following photos show one of the adults doing some fishing on the Tennessee River, fattening up for another nesting season. The adult pair of eagles, who have been residents of the battlefield since fall of 2007, will most likely begin their nesting season in January or February. Here's to a successful 12th year of residency at Shiloh National Military Park!

I use to enjoy watching the Eagle Cam, thanks for the update. There is at least one nesting pair here in central Alabama, I'm glad to see them making a comeback.

@rebracer you might want to visit this thread as part of your inquiry into the late October 2019 storm that hit North Mississippi and the Shiloh area. I included a local coverage about Corinth, MS 20 miles SW of the Park.
@16thAL and @TomP who Corinth could provide additional details
