"Secret Societies"...

I came upon this while perusing for other information in the WOR books. Vol. 48. January 1-June 30, 1865 Part l Section 2 - Reports, Union and Confederate Correspondence. A Lt. Frank Wicker of the Signal Corps out of New Orleans. makes mention of Union soldiers, officers noted, of joining Confederate-adjacent "secret societies", such named as "The Sons of the South", "Sons of Liberty", "Knights of the Black Cross", as early as May 1865. This doesn't sound like the "Sons of Liberty" within Indiana that Rosecrans dealt with in '64. Has anyone else ever come across this?
