Nice, never knew spencer made infantry long arms

The Spencer Rifles were actually out there in the field probably before the larger Spencer Carbine contracts came along. US Navy had purchased on their own around 750 of the rifles in early 1863... thought some had been distributed with the Mississippi flotilla... Army had purchased around 7500 or so of the rifles... They quickly grew in popularity hence contracts for larger quantities of the Spencer Carbine came along for Cavalry use... Spencer of course marketing the weapons accordingly... bayonet attachments being the primary difference between the labeled Navy/Army models... Navy reported actually received some of the Army models too....
