Scottish Immigrant Daniel McCallum

This person was an extremely effective railroad engineer and manager. He was part of the development of the multi-division corporation, which was a large part of the industrial revolution against which the secessionists staged their counter revolution.
A story of the Civil War which does not recognize that the northern portion of the United States in the second half of the 19th century was an immigrant society is going to miss a compelling truth.

This guy has been missed by the historians. Without McCallum there is no success in Sherman's Georgia campaign.
Apparently he immigrated with his family from Scotland in 1822.
While it's not likely that his absence would have doomed Sherman's campaign, or any other campaign, McCallum certainly was a very important player for the Union, especially with organization of the railroads for the Union army.
