Shelby Foote described the Confederate Army as "scarecrow infantry" because of how thin they were. This fella really fits that title. It looks like he's wearing an early war homespun frock coat. LOC.

That's why I laugh at some of the characters, especially Confederate, in the movie, "Gettysburg". No offense to them but a lot of them look like they wouldn't do too well on a 10 mile march, let alone a 10 or 20 mile march followed by a battle.
 
He is rather thin and he has a very long neck which adds to the emaciated look he has in this picture.
He does have a "giraffe" neck. Way back when I was tall and skinny one of my nicknames was "Flaco". Mexican for skinny. Believe me I'm more of a Gordo (fatso) than a Flaco now.
