Sanders and Preacher

I recently found out that I have at least two ancestors who faught in the civil war, but cannot seem to find any other info other than their names were John Friendly Preacher (yes, friendly was his real middle name), and William Barker Sanders. Both would have been in SC at the time, but I cant seem to find anything else. Can anyone help me?

Age 19 years

He has a long record.

There are several 'W.B. Sanders' in SC.

With a little help from GOOGLE, you should easily be able to find a regimental history of the 11th SC. Next step is to go for a pension file. One of your larger local libraries should also be able to help now that you have a name and unit. If you don't already know, figure out where this regiment and more importantly the company was formed. It may or may not have been Bay Point. Then tackle a library there are try that county's genweb site.

Here are a few more items from his record (it's 24 pages long so you may want to order it):
Re-enlisted June 24, 1862 (his original enlistment was for one year)- "Enlistment extended 2 yrs. Bounty due $50.-"

On the roll for March & April 1863 he is described as the "Company Commissary." Probably only a temporary duty as it is not mentioned elsewhere.

Admitted to Jackson Hospital, Richmond, VA, November 6, 1864. Returned to duty November 30, 1864.
He was suffering from some sort of fever- "febris re---".

Surrendered at Augusta, GA, May 20, 1865.

There are five "W.B. Sanders" and eight "William Sanders" in SC.

Sorry, I will have to pass on that one.
