I was doing research on my relative Major Samuel Cobb from the 13th Wisconsin. Although much is written about him, I can't find much about his early life. I found him born in Vermont in 1836, in Massachusetts in 1850 and in Minnesota in 1857. I also can't find his parents. He's with Joseph and Abilene Cobb in 1850, but Abilene being nine years Joseph's senior makes me sceptic if their his parents. Can someone help?
