I visited the Sailor's Creek Battlefield on April 6. Here are some photos from the Marshall Crossroads and Hillsman House areas.

Pickett's Division was deployed along this road, where they were attacked and routed by Federal cavalry.

Why has it been that the last battles after Petersburg have not be told as other battles of the war? These battles demonstrate the true defiance of the Army of Virginia . Sheridan stated that these conflicts were overshadowed by the surrender of Lee . This still harkins to the old question of if Lee could have broken thought the Union's center could he had proceeded to join with Johnson against Sherman . The CSA was of really no force in strength even if they could have,Grant had the ordnance and the strength of force to maintain Lee's army.Desertions were depleting the army, along with lack of food thanks to the ordnance department, they either did not have the supplies to send or the administration knew the army only required more weapons ,aka Davis in twilight zone.

This is where my Gggrandfather ended his military adventure. He, along with his Pards from the Ashland Light Artillery gave them Yankees what for, before being captured.

Thanks for sharing!

It does seem that this phase of the war is neglected. It has been by me at least. I'm trying to remedy that.
