Another possible preventable and careless injury at a reported "reenactment"

Oddly enough the was the only media coverage of the reported incident that I found... No further elaboration of the type of weapon involved or what they state was a "backfire" of it... Further checking discovered that it was a local Civil War Days commemoration event with a couple dozen folks participating... A wide assortment of dressed up folks reportedly suppose to resemble Civil War era something.... Came across a posted collection of assorted photos of the event... it was quite obvious that authenticity and safety standards were very low or more likely non-existent for either.... If folks want to dress up in "costumes" and go play and make noise, to each their own... but safety standards and mandates should not also be tossed out the window.... It reflects badly back on everyone in the hobby... This is why we have rules and safety regs, inspections and mandates at reputable events... Making sure everyone go's home with all their body parts they came with....

That was my other thought. But would that damage the face?

I also found some pictures. Lots of non regulation weapons in use and a lot of very young participants...
And to the extent that you can judge a groups drill based on pictures... then it is clear that the manual of arms is not something they worry to much about.

I don't know what "backfired" means. Maybe somebody used the wrong kind of powder and blew up their musket ?

Unrelated, but that's why I quit using public shooting ranges a very long time ago; too many careless, undisciplined amateurs. If an event doesn't have safety rules that are monitored by knowledgeable people I wouldn't attend.
