This is the Sachs Bridge, known as the most historic bridge in PA. On July 1, 1863, the bridge was crossed by the two brigades of the I Corps of the Union Army heading towards Gettysburg. The III Corps also crossed the bridge heading to the Black Horse Tavern. Four days later, the majority of General Lee's Army retreated over the bridge after the Union victory. It is said to be haunted by Confederate Soldiers.

Great pictures @ARW and of one of my favorite places associated with the battlefield. Thanks for all the great images.

It has been on my radar but just never made it there. This last visit was more of a shotgun approach going just to places on my list and this was at the top. I would like to believe that some of my ancestors crossed this bridge. I had some in both the Corps that did.

Oh, I bet they did @ARW !

Here's a picture of me and the hubby last time we visited the bridge. My husband's ancestor was in Woffords brigade. McLaws' division and brigade Field Hospitals were established nearby the bridge so we went over there to locate them. You might enjoy the thread I posted a while back- even though these were CS hospitals. https://civilwartalk.com/threads/se...-hospitals-at-gettysburg.117549/#post-1195271

Pictures of me are few and far between since I am behind the camera, but this is my son and his girlfriend last weekend. We have her hooked, this was her forth visit since we first took her there last year. And she is ready to go back again.

That's fantastic! Your son is very handsome and I'm sure you are pleased with his girlfriend since she is interested in the CW.

Thanks. very proud of him and she moved up a lot last year when she let us turn her first 2 hr tour into a 5 hr dissertation. My wife just kept saying "I warned you" and humming the theme to Gilligan's Island.

A person in town told us when they replaced the bridge after the flood that the bridge turned at the last minute. So it's actually turned 180° from where it would have been originally. I thought that was cool
