While looking at a c. 1862 map of Richmond, I noticed a series of forts set in a rough ring shape around the city. After doing some quick reading (particularly the game rules for Civil War Brigade Series: Seven Pines), the citizenry of Richmond erected these forts early in the war. Other than this, the information on them is quite scant. This isn't surprising, as they saw very little use during the war, but I've been left with a number of questions.
1) What are some good sources of information of the fortifications?
2) Are there any surviving photos or drawings of them?
3) Could they support heavy ordnance/ infantry?
