A CSA battery in Rhea Field at Shiloh. These boy would have been trading shots with Waterhouse's battery which be located to the left of the picture. Taken in November 2014.

This a very good photo. Rhea Field was a bad place to be during the opening of the battle. A bad day for the 53rd Ohio, which started out so well, fighting hard at least until Appler had his meltdown. So did his men. Waterhouse had to leave too. It wasn't a good day for the Confederates either. They suffered heavy losses in the field. So peaceful today, leaving just the guns and markers showing the path of the war.

Rhea field was the scene of so much death and destruction yet @mt155 made it look like a peaceful rural scene. The 6th Mississippi lost 365 men of the 425 men---70% casualties---when it made 3 charges across the filed against the much malinged 53rd Ohio. All the while the 6th faced 1 section of Waterhouse's Battery E, 1st Illinois Light Artillery face on with the rest of the battery on their left slighted elevated above.

I wanted to bring this thread back to life to remind everyone of the violence at Shiloh and as a reminder of the upcoming Shiloh Muster.
Regards
David
