Tons of wonderful feedback here, very helpful- and gosh, so, so, so many civilian workers? It was massive. I have seen specific organizations, like Philadelphia's, list civilians working on their fair. If you're looking for nurses or medical relief workers, maybe look for specific battles, under the heading Sanitary Commission, on Hathitrust? Internet Archives should have a ton, too?
