Sometimes you find the best things doing research when you are not even looking for them. Last week I was doing some research in the files of the Mississippi War Between the States Commission, which was established to help the state promote the centennial of the Civil War. While going through this mass of material I found a letter written by the clerk of the town of Bolton, Mississippi. I immediately took an interest, as Bolton is my hometown. I looked down to see who authored the letter - and saw my dad's name! It was an amazing coincidence - I knew he had served as town clerk in the 1960's, but I had no idea I would find a letter written by him. My dad passed away in 2006 so it felt really good to see his handwriting again - it has been a long time.
