Replica Recommendations

I've been interested in procuring a fireable replica rifled musket, potentially for use with reenacting and/or also with NSSA if time allows for me to explore both of these in the near future. I'm experienced with modern muzzleloaders for hunting, but traditional is new to me. I've been networking some already but wanted to ask in this forum to get some additional feedback. Is there a particular manufacturer that is superior over the other? (i.e. Pedersoli, Chiappa, Traditions). These three brands seem to be the most prominent, are there any others? Would also appreciate your recommendations on specific sutlers/businesses you've had positive experiences with buying from. Thanks much for your time!

I always suggest Lodgewood. And I will always suggest a custom made from a mix of original and repro parts.

Some also depends on where you're located. As an example I have an excellent repro M1841 Colt Alteration I would be willing to part with right now but being in MN might be a problem.

There's also going to NSSA or ACWSA matches to see and learn what getting into it entails.

interested if anyone here has had any business with James River Armory. I saw them listed on N-SSA approved rifles manual
James River Armory pivoted away from muzzleloaders a number of years ago. Their products are rare to see on the market and command a premium.

As for good recommendations, I say give Dixie Gun Works a call. Usually good stock of reproductions new in the box, of CW guns. Chiappa or Pedersoli will work for you.

Lots of folks have had bad experiences with Traditions Chiappa muskets with not favorable allegations.

Used guns sell like hotcakes.

Blockade Runner has a nice selection of things. The problem is finding a place that has muskets in stock. Maybe you will find fortune checking all the resource entities and rechecking with them every now and again.
C&C Sutlery has quality items. I think they have some muskets in stock.
Milk Creek Sutlery has or had a dynamic menu. I think they were going more to clothing and uniforms and backing out of offering some of the gear. Don't take that as gospel. You need to check with them yourself.
I have found that Googling what you want can sometimes strike gold. Timing is everything.
Lastly, there are a couple of outfits that get those Pakistani and Indian knock offs. The one guy replied to me that he only had '53 Enfields in .69 Cal. Suppliers must have dried up. Anyway, they are probably "Pumpkin Slingers". Inexpensive for a starter musket until you find what you need. Other reenactors often come up with something that is for sale because of a financial situation or a buddy retiring from the craft or some such reason that they must sell part or all of their kit.
Hope all this typed blather helps you.
Cheers!
