Remington revolver

I have inherited a Remington revolver that seems to be from the Civil War. I know nothing about the gun's provenance other than it was in my grandfather's possession and he was born in Ct. and lived his life in New Hampshire. His father came over from England and was born in 1863 so I don't think that it was one of his ancestors. On top of the barrel, you can make out the words "Patented" and under that "Remington" and a bit after that "New York, USA". All other words are worn off. There appears to be a "D" on the trigger guard. The Patent number is 65981. There is a stamped mark on one of the wooden grips, maybe "J&H"? There is also an "H" carved in the bottom of the grip. The cylinder rotates and the gun cocks and "fires". From the research that I have done, this might be a "New Model Army Percussion"? Any ideas on its worth? Thanks for any information that you can give.

If it is the first model, they are worth more than the 2nd model.
Remington can take the number and give the history of it.
