CENTREVILLE — The beginning of the end, this year, 2015, marks the sesquicentennial, or 150 years, since the end of the Civil War. More than 620,000 lives were lost in the Civil War. Author James McPherson writes, "The Civil War started because of uncompromising differences between the free and slave states over the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the territories that had not yet become states."
