Stupid question? There must be blank cartridges for purchase or technique for manufacture for a Henry rifle or are you "faking it" the entire time? Aside from the fact it is unlikely as a weapon in this context particularly for a Confederate. But he's out doing something he enjoys which is the most important aspect.

That "Yankee" in the back row seems to be looking directly down the bore of the rifle of the soldier in the front row.
That would be one reason to load while Standing and NOT like this.

there are blanks available for the various calibers of repro Henry rifles. There are also ways to modify the carrier block on the 44-40 version and by using 44 magnum brass attain an accurate 15 shot Henry (though center fire, or course). https://44henryrifle.webs.com/blanksforthehenry.htm

I don't understand; why would you need to alter anything, whats the matter with the .44 WCF (44-40)?
Nothings wrong. It only hold 13 rounds of 44-40 WCF live or blanks The originals held 15 and doing the modification to accommodate.44 mags allows you to do this. You don't have to modify them…
