Relics stolen

Oh shoot, that's terrible. My father was a lifelong rifle collector and someone stole his collection, I know it's a real kick in the teeth.

A reminder to everyone to please be careful about posting pictures of valuables online... Make sure your security is up to par with what you have, and be aware of how easy it is for someone to figure out who you are and locate your address online. It took me 12 seconds to look at his Facebook about page and locate his home address. There are bad people out there!

That is very bad. It's so hard to recover any of it, too. My grandmother's baskets were stolen years ago - she had piles of them - and we've recovered about a quarter of them. The basket weaver always puts a 'signature' somewhere in the work. She was a master weaver and old baskets are worth a lot - we'll never recover most of them.

Allie has good advice! A while ago I used to participate in an Admiral Nelson board - about the time of the 200th anniversary of Trafalgar there was a big upswing in value for Nelsonia. Some people were very 'out there' about things they had - some very, very valuable. I was really surprised at that and not so surprised when some of them reported their items stolen!

They got just what was on this table. Seems the relics he had in display cases was not taken. He has filed a police report and is turning it in on homeowners insurance.

I looked at his FB page and I really hope the Tiffany & Co eagle flag topper was in a case and was not among the items stolen. :furious: Makes me so angry. Nothing worse than a thief...especially a stealer of history.

Really a shame that generously sharing his hard work with others may have been repaid in such a way. I know insurance can't begin to cover his losses.

It seems hopeful that not everything was cleared out, like maybe this wasn't planned by an expert collector. Hopefully some things will surface so the thief gets caught.

Just who knew he had this collection? Was he public with it? Or did ony his circle of "friends" know about it?
