I was wondering how many reenactor groups are in the State of Iowa? Although my husband was in Gettysburg (movie as one of the 6 hot heads) he was not a reenactor. His Great Grand- Father was a Fighting Hawkeye with the 4th. Iowa Infantry. We researched the 4th for his book Ambrose Civil War Journey but I have little understanding of how many men faught with other units from Iowa. Do you have info on personal Ancestors from Iowa? I found it really interesting to hear stories of family history of Patriots.
We had the pleasure of meeting and hearing stories about Ambrose from a family member (101 yrs young) that recounted stories she heard from her Grand father Ambrose when she was a youngster. It was unbelieveable to be sitting there hearing about the man that came home, wounded after 4 yrs of CW fighting. She remembered him so well and it was so interesting that my husband included many of her accounts in his book.
How many reenactor groups are still active in Iowa and will anyone share stories about their family from Iowa that may have faught with Ambrose or other units? What battles did your groups fight in throughout the War?
