Seldom do we see a pose fifty years apart.

She was born in Linglestown, Pa. in 1840 (50 miles northeast of Gettysburg).

She aged very well.

Beautiful in both images.

Can you tell us anything about her ?

My mother's mother's mother's mother.
She had 10 children that reached adulthood (starting in 1861). Her husband was 9 years older and from what I can tell didn't serve in the CW. In 1882 the family packed up and moved to rural Missouri, I have no ideal why, farming I guess???

I have my G Grandmother's friendship book, with friends and family saying goodbye and good luck on the move to Missouri, and then new friends in Missouri saying hello, etc. Her future husband had some nice words to say to the new girl in town, lol!

The lady above had one brother of age that served in the 127th Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry (Battle of Fredericksburg and Battle of Chancellorville). The 127th regiment term of service was 9 months (August 1862 - May 1863). The 127th was among sixteen Pennsylvania regiments that had 9 month terms, then orders came from Washington that men would be refused unless they signed up for 3 years.

Great story !
Thanks.

What a great story, thanks so much! Wow, 10 children and look at her, she looks amazing! Their clothing is always so beautifully starched and ironed, their hair perfect- and not just for a photograph. Considering how hard it was to keep clothing in such beautiful shape, am always impressed when a woman like this shows up.

You wonder what the girl on the left would have thought, had anyone told her she'd be the woman on the right- probably be pretty happy.
