There is a pretty decent account of the building and crossing of the dam on the river that's discussed in several replies in this thread.

I just got the "Hero of the Red River" book and I simply had to share this.

There is an ANGEL on the cover, holding a garland crown of flowers over his head.

AN ANGEL. OVER HIS HEAD.

Bit much? I think.

Oh dear. Bet any engineer male or female would think so? Had also not been aware other engineers felt so strongly about their own roles- bet they'd think so too!

Sorry, you made me laugh. ' Angel over his head ' in caps- is it from one of those Victorian, hyper-sentimental ( albeit quite beautiful ) tributes they tended to come up with or is this 100% 2015? And yes, see your point.
