Rear sight 1st Allen conversion

The Springfield 1st Allen trapdoor conversion had the rear sight soft soldered on to the barrel. My question is how it was done, the 1861 and 63 sights have a projection under the sight to fit into a mortice slot on a barrel. The 1st Allen barrel does not the mortice slot machined into the barrel. So how was the sight soft soldered flat on to the barrel? Was the projection ground flat? Anyone have a thought on this subject?

The guru on trapdoor info has a site you can find by searching name of trapdoorcollector. You will find a message board there where you can ask this same question
