Our farm is bordered on the north by the Po. river. On May 9th Hancock sent three divisions from Todd's Tavern to our side of the Po to get on Richard Anderson's I Corps flank. On May 10th Heth and Mahone drove the Yankees back , followed by heavy bombardment by Porter Alexandra on Laurel hill. This action known as the Battle of Talley's Mill and documented by Rea in the Overland Campaign. The temperature in Virginia has been in the high 90s and too hot to relic hunt. My neighbor went magnet hunting in the Po near the Union retreat crossing til this morning and came home with this 3" Read with the fuse intact

Very Nice. Hopefully it will clean up nice.
Rich I think he found the honey hole. Porter Alexander rained shot and shell on those poor yanks as they were trying to make it to their pontoon crossing in the mist of the woods around them on fire. My neighbor told me he was getting a lot of hits just above the pontoon site - a sure sign of the CS guns sights set too high. Several years back I found a Sinkel in that same area, but it was in the ground, not the water. Five rifles were dug two years ago on the Todd's Tavern side of the Po
