Anyone know where Ration Hill near the Valley Road is located near Vicksburg? Or where Blake's Plantation would be? Something like 12 miles from the 1863 boundary of Vicksburg.
The maps in Grabau's books are very good and very in depth. Thank you again for the recommendation!
I just wished he had one that focused on the Chickasaw Bayou area closer. But certainly helps in locating of these obscure placenames I can't seem to find on many other maps.
That's cool. Had no idea it still has buildings still standing. That's always cool to see. My wife and I stayed at Cedar Grove B&B a couple of weeks ago. (wasn't overly impressed but liked the idea).
Anyway, I was playing around with the burial ledgers for the Chickasaw Bayou area and it switched to an area near Ration Hill and the Blake Plantation. So I wasn't sure exactly where it was located.

Yeah, Cedar Grove has gone down-hill over the last few years. Sad.
When or if you could come back down, I would encourage you to stay at Anchuca. Here is some photos I took of it when we stayed (actually stayed there the weekend y'all left Vicksburg for New Orleans).
I was hoping it was just because they were in the middle of refurbishing the dining hall/lounge area as well as the pool. But no WiFi in the rooms was the biggest annoyance. But I lived in this bad boy (built 1868) so outside of those items mentioned, it wasn't bad. Could even live with the giant cockroach in the tub...just one of those things staying old buildings.

Yes, she was the administrator there. I heard about Reagan's shooting from the dining room in that old building. Great memories.
I suppose that's why I like old buildings. So much history and character in them.
