The raspberries are heavy on the canes in our garden and I'm dreaming of ways to eat them (if I can manage to get enough set aside for a recipe - they tend to disappear as soon as they come in the house). This recipe form the Dodgeville Chronicle (Dodgeville, WI - July 30, 1869) is a nice variant on a common treat.

RASPBERRY SHORTCAKE. - Made the same way as the strawberry cake, only cooking the berries a little while, with the sugar, before spreading them on the cake. This is nice and more healthful than pie.

I love raspberries but what about the pips? The same with blackberries - the pips drive me crazy.
