Ralph Donnelly

Hope I'm not writing his obit prematurely, but I think he might no longer be with us.

ETA: It appears that he passed away in 1989.

Thanks Mark. I suspected that might be the case.
Now I suppose I need to see if he his papers may be curated somewhere.

Hello John,

As you know Ralph Donnelly was a former US Marine who later in life did a significant amount of scholarly research into the history of the Confederate States Marine Corps. He also did research into early CSN activities in North Carolina and the Pee Dee Navy Yard. I was informed by another researcher that most of his papers are located at Quantico in the Marine Research Library. He intended to, but never published the paper you are seeking. I have a pdf copy of the paper as it was when sent to Robert Stephenson (University of South Carolina and State archaeologist) in April 1983. Here are some details.

'The Pee Dee (S.C.) Navy Yard, C.S.N.'
by Ralph Donnelly, copy dated 12 May 1983, consists of 78 pages as follows:

2-31 - Text, history of PDNY
32-44 - Notes and References
45-47 - PDNY Chronology
48-53 - CSS Pee Dee Officers and biographies
54-63 - PDNY Station Officers
64-67 - Partial Crew List of CSS Pee Dee
68-72 - White workmen
73-75 - Black workmen
76-77 - Masters & Slaves
78 - Letter from Donnelly to Stephenson describing his research

Research in the last 5 years has revealed further information about the CSS Pee Dee, the tender and two TBS built at the PDNY. Contact with your email address and I can forward the pdf.

Best regards,
Bil
