Raising the flag

This Confederate flag fan was not impressed:

Lifetime Chester resident Jennifer Wells says this brand new 15 by 20 [sic.] Confederate Flag flying near the interstate represents a rich history. She supports the cause. . . .

With all the chatter leading up to the flag flying Saturday, Wells and others thought it would be more visible.

"I definitely thought it was going to be bigger," Wells commented. "I definitely thought you'd be able to see it from I-95. You can't."
Be sure to watch the video to the end, to see how the flag looks from the northbound lanes of the freeway.

The whole point of this exercise was to make something that was prominent and visible to commuters and visitors traveling into Richmond on I-95. We'll see what happens from here, but it's not an auspicious start so far.

Virginia is a great place to live. I grew up in Chester where the flag was put up. Small town when I lived there in the 80s it has grown quite a bit in the last 15-20 years.

Well, if nothing else, this certainly has an awful lot of folks talking about Virginia. I don't think anyone can argue it's a vastly pretty state- and I'm a huge PA fan. I've spent some time at Virginia Beach and the touristy, crowded parts of the Outer Banks, not to mention what passes for the Jersey shore these days ( do not mean post Sandy, kudos for their efforts getting it back up and running ), liked Virginia Beach the most.

Nice to see you around, Bill O, have a good trip! Yes, I'll bet Virginia is spectacular in the fall- never made it this time of year, only been there spring and summer. Funny to think of folks living right where all these kind of legendary names exist- always have thought the whole darn state should be a National Civil War park.

JPK Huson 1863,

Just imagine, if all of the State of Virginia was a National Civil War park, it would be closed. ;)

Sincerely,

Note the drain (low area) between the interstate and flag location.
When they clear the trees it will probably be very visible to northbound traffic.

Perhaps.

In the meantime, in doesn't seem to have been such a great idea to make a big show of putting up a flag whose purpose is to be visible to motorists, before it's actually visible to motorists.

Any updates on the tree cutting?
