Hey all, been working to get this cone out a a couple days, letting it soak in pb blaster and periodically heating the bolster with a heat gun while giving light taps on the shank. Havent seen a gun with this kind of cone before, seems like maybe a pistol size cone but I havent seen one with what appears to be a 1/8 inch shank, any idea what I can use to get a full grip on it? I've heard of some using small sized fuacet keys?

What exactly is this?? It isn't necessary for your question but curiosity makes me wonder what the rest of it is like.

I've posted about it before, seems no one really knows exactly what it is, likely was made by someone from parts or something from Bannerman perhaps

More pictures please and as James N. asked, what is it? You are actually doing the right thing, but a heat gun most likely is not going to do it. You are going to need a pp torch, just make sure that the PB blaster is wiped clean and the barrel is not loaded. Do you have a vise? I take a nice piece of leather scrap and lay it in the vise jaws prior to clamping and then find a wrench that fits that particular nipple. Looks like a pistol nipple, which wasn't that uncommon during the post war period, pistol caps were half of what musket caps cost and did the same job for varmint eradication and hunting.

Thanks for the link - somehow I'd missed seeing it before now.

Patience will win the day here, but find a wrench that fits securely after soaking in PB and heating, then put the gun in a protected vise and tap the wrench with a rubber mallet to break the rust on the threads. You might even want to get more of an advantage/leverage by putting a length of metal pipe over the wrench handle. (automotive open ended or box wrench)

Are you trying to save the nipple, if so go slowly, if not just protect all surfaces and wack away.

I do want to salvage the nipple for now, I would like to find a replacement since it is chipped, what can I put on there since it's so small, I obviously want to grip it from all 4 sides but it seems most nipple wrenches are too large, and I do have it clamped in a vise with some microfiber cloth in that pic, used paper towel for a focusing tool.
