Question on everyone's 2012 season.

Well I was wondering when your season begins? Are you preparing for it,and what are you doing to prepare for the season?
Our season starts April 13th with our school of soldier ( shake out the cob webs.). My son (oldest boy, my youngest still says he is not quite ready.) and I are rolling and filling cartridges ( so far 800 rounds done with 16 cans of powder left still),cleaned the rifles ( we have 3), inspected the tents, and took inventory on all supplies.

This upcoming weekend (3/25) is Regimental Drill in Gettysburg.

Kit has been readied, upgrades made, cartridges rolled and filled, weapon is cleaned and I'm anxious to get 'officially' started on the season!

Except for a couple of Living Histories already, Shiloh is coming up in 5 days. First a 20 mile Confederate Memorial March from Corinth to Shiloh and upon arriving, straight into battle for 3 days.

For me, Shiloh, unless you count my talk on medicine at a SCV camp meeting last week. For the group I'm with, they had a COI earlier in the month.

Looks like it will be Shiloh(AOT) event for my buddies and I. We were expecting to come down with a dozen rifles but, real life intervened. One going to be a granddad that weekend, couple more are laid off from work soo no go on the 1500 mile round trip for them. A buddy and I are going down on Wednesday night and stopping at Donnelson Thurs day morn. The next event looks like Memorial weekend at Coldwater Mi. Then a parade closer to home on Memorial day.

Mine started in Jan. with the 150th Anv. of the battle of Mills Spring Ky. Then it will be BGA Shiloh 150th, Richmond Ky 150th, Maryland my Maryland 150th, and Perryville Ky 150th. Those are my max efforts.

My season doesn't end, it just goes indoors for a few weeks.

I was in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Alexandria, VA. For that I made each of the civilians we had coming a happy kelly green cockade to wear. That event had the largest civilian attendance the unit had seen in some time. Go Civies!

I'll be leaving for 150th Shiloh on Thursday morning. Preparation has included re-fitting my dress, my petticoats, my nightgown, making a rain saque and rain hood, converting a friend's captain frock coat into a major frock coat, planning the menu, researching the recipes for the menu, planning my first person impression, researching various impression details, researching pocket trash, constructing pocket trash, picking the canvas home and furniture from the storage locker, getting the hotel for the return trip booked, oil change to the truck, replace the headlight lamp on the truck so we're not ticketed for being a cyclops.... I currently have eggs pickling and will be picking up the last of the groceries so I can begin cooking later today. Well... all y'all asked.

I have many more events this year ending up with Fire On the Rappahanock:150th Fredericksburg in mid-December.

Taking 2012 as it comes right now........recent developments have really left me in a depressed 'i just don't give a (insert impolite profanity of choice here) anymore". Love the hobby, but trying to make everyone happy with an event is really getting me down. On top of a pretty serious sprain from a fall I suffered at work, 2012 is starting to suck eggs

We shoot year round starting with Dec 31st through the 2nd of January for the anniverary of Stones River battle.

For my unit last weekend's 150th Shiloh started off our year. Not everyone could go to that one due to the distance and time needed off work to travel down there. So for the most part our 1st entire company event of the year will be the weekend of April 13th. There are some die hards who do some winter events but for the most part there are no or not many winter events because the spectatores would not enjoy standing in ice and snoow to watch a battle.

Last year was my year to get to know re-enacting. Now I can start doing my part, as a female, in CW re-enacting figuring out how to introduce herbs and wild foods to spectators. I cant sew or do much girly things for spectators, such as victorican clothing education and tea parties, and I would not be good at pretending to be a male to take the field, but I can share the knowledge that I do have which is herbs and wild foods.
