Hello all,

I am looking to buy a canteen for a federal impression. Is there a good one that i can buy for a decent price, and any websites that any of ya'll would recommend to do so. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks

https://store.wisvetsmuseum.com/products-page/tinware/ I know you're doing a US impression but the flat out best ACW canteen I have seen is the CS offing from the Wi Veterans museum, copied from an original in their collection.

http://www.regtqm.com/category-s/74.htm Regt QM has several really good federal ones.

The blockade runner offering as mentioned by Albert is pretty nice.

Village Tinsmith is awesome if you can find one. I keep getting conflicting reports as to if they are still around or not.

Avoid Stainless... tin looks right Stainless doesn't.

I will "second" Johan's recommendations of the Wi Veteran's Museum!!

Thats where I picked up my canteen, plate, cooler & coffee boiler... which walked off. What they have is copied from items in the collection w/ direct provenance to men who served and these were irems they carried. Can't get much more authentic than that.

Unfortunately, I have never bought anything from them, and I regret it.....I REALLY like the authenticity in their goods.....I would like to buy some of their items, and perhaps I will in the future!! :)

When I last spoke to Bill last year, at that time he stated he was just getting too old to do the road travels and sutlering at events anymore... but was still making and selling stuff via mail.... at least for awhile longer...he had also discontinued some stuff and cut back the extent of his prior offerings. I will concur on the quality of his goods... have bought a lot of stuff from him over the years... cups, canteens, cook pots... and probably near one of everything else at one time or another it seems....lol...

In my opinion, Blockade Runner is just fine! They're as good as any other sutler, BUT, there are those, like the WI Veterans, et al, that are more authentic. That's not to say, however, that Blockade Runner's products will get you laughed at....What I mean is: "Mainstream" sutlers are good, but there are better and they may cost a little more.....I think you'll be fine!
