Picked up this belt recently & wondering if anyone can give anymore info. I was told this is from early war with the leather loop on it. Any further details anyone would know? Was told it looks "named" but not sure if buckle is just scratched. Thnx!

What about the leather loop on belt giving hints? I guess plate could be different hmm…
I don't see any loops in your photos.

Early belts will have that leather loop. Later belts have the brass adjuster. A lot of times they were discarded though. The buckle is mid to late war. You would need a puppy paw style to really go with the belt as far as an early set but there's nothing wrong with what's in it. It's real and that's what counts. Prior to these belts styles the belts were white and had baby plates on them. Buff leather belts were dyed black for the regulations and usually when found now are brown from oxidizing

A very rare belt indeed, most of these were replaced by the newer belts with the brass keeper; the leather keeper did not hold up to the rigors of campaign and the sewn loop/keeper would break, become unattached or simply wore out. You will need a different buckle for the belt, as others have pointed out these usually came with the stud or puppy paw buckles. E Gaylord was a very large supplier of these rigs to both the states and Federal government.

Most US issue leather gear was sewn in the pre and early war period, belts, scabbards, knapsack, brogans, cartridge and cap boxes; once it was discovered that continuous use deteriorated and strained the threads, copper rivets were used for additional support.
