Any tips on searching the provost records? I'm trying to find more details on the July to Sep 1862 period below. Would the provost records have more detail as to the reason for arrest? Would you want to look in any other state's provost records other than Connecticut's?

To further confuse myself, Edwin Bishop's pension records don't mention any arrest & state he was 'present' during this window. Any help figuring this out, is greatly appreciated!

My guess would be they arrested him and briefly detained him but never charged him. What would normally follow an arrest would be a court martial, either a General Court Martial or a regimental one. If that was not the case, it was decided for whatever reason not to charge him. The arrest might have been made just to break up a bad situation tending toward a fight or perhaps too much drinking.
