The 19th Indiana went into the fight on July 1 with an estimated 29 officers and 299 enlisted men, and had 18 officers and 192 enlisted men killed, wounded or captured/missing. (About 20 of the enlisted men were detached to serve with the brigade guard, which initially opposed Davis' brigade at the railroad cut.) Early on July 2, the regiment counted 9 officers and 60 enlisted men present. There was no loss in the regiment while it was posted on the north slope of Culp's Hill on July 2 and 3, according to Col. William W. Dudley (Bachelder Papers 2:939-944).
