I didn't realize they were for family. So, maybe a combo of a good sales pitch and a bit of frugality. Gotta admit they've lasted a long time and still look pretty good.
I'm fascinated with them! They are so beautiful and so crisp looking! The thing is, even if they are broken when you put the pieces together you can still read them. Much better than the marble ones up here in the North that are oxidized and etched away.

I had an uncle that was on this planet for only eleven months back in the 1930's.
His headstone ( although smaller of granite ) was originally just as elaborate as the other family monuments.
But now it's deteriorated into almost unreadable.
These pottery headstones look as if created last month.
